Where applications on Nokia

I've been rather disapointed with the Where LBS platform on my Nokia N82. Two things:

1) the GPS positioning doesn't work. That's a dealbreaker, ladies.

2) It's God-awful slow.

Waiting to hear back from support on the issue that is described here.

radio-head

This is a great link, if you're concerned about cell-phone radiation and the handsets' SAR values.

If you look back on history and see all of the activities and substances that we thought were just peachy, but turned out not to be, then it makes ya think. I'm not going to stop using my cell phone anytime soon, but don't be surprised if we all grow a cactus on top of our favorite phone-ear from using these things over years and years...

no luv from T-mobile either

Looks like I'll have to take the N82 to the Old World to get New Age 3G speeds. I don't think I'm going to see any better speed on T-mobile, either:

that sux

just coming to realize that the N82 may not be a workin' 3G-style on AT&T:

another reason to stay w/ T-mobile me thinks...

I just don't like AT&T. They seem to cock-block every thing we try to do, that doesn't meet their "buy a phone and a 2-year contract" philosophy. T-mobile just gives me a (slightly) warmer fuzzy.

Geotaging with the N82

I had great success this morning using the N82 to geotag photos from another camera. Here's the workflow:
- install the Nokia Sports Tracker software onto the N82
- under settings, set the GPS filter to 'high' My experience thusfar has been that at lower settings, there really is more data than necessary to geotag with.
- start a track while you're taking photos.
- when finished, you can export your track to a .gpx file
- back at your PC, load the photos and the .gpx file into your machine
- use an application like GeoSetter to synch the photos and the track.

I have been playing with GeoSetter for a week or so now. It is FANTABULOUS. Not just as a geotagging app, but also just as a general metadata app.

here's the finished product:

In the beginning...

... there was an empty Blog. How daunting.

This is an experiment - to see what kind of attention span I have, and to find out if there are other like-minded life forms out in the Web universe. I cannot say exactly what will be the purpose of said site, or exactly where this might go. A couple of ideas come to mind, so let's just let this thing evolve.
